The role of calcium silicon alloy in iron and steel industry

A binary alloy of silicon calcium, belonging to the category of ferroalloys. Its main components are silicon and calcium, and it also contains impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus in varying amounts. According to the content of calcium and silicon, silica-calcium alloy can be divided into: Ca30Si60, Ca28Si60, Ca28Si55.

Silicon calcium alloy plays an important role in the iron and steel industry, it is mainly used in:

(1) Si-Ca alloy is used as deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steelmaking industry. The affinity of silicon and calcium to oxygen is very large, and the affinity of calcium to sulfur is also very large. The deoxidization and desulfurization products are easy to float and exclude, improve the performance of steel, improve the plasticity and impact toughness of steel. Therefore, ferro silicon calcium alloy is a good compound deoxidizer. At present, Si-Ca alloy can replace the final deoxidation of aluminum and is widely used in the production of high quality steel. Continuous casting also requires silicon – calcium alloy deoxidation.

(2) CaSi alloy can be used as an effective warming agent. The quality and yield of steel can be improved by adding silica-calcium alloy particles to the ingot head as heating agent.

(3) Ca-Si alloy is used as deoxidizing desulfurizer and inoculant in cast iron production. Silica-calcium alloy can improve the performance of cast iron more effectively than ferrosilicon. Silica-calcium alloy can deoxidize, deoxidize and increase silicon in cast iron, and it is an effective inoculant to promote the formation of spherical graphite. In the actual use process, in order to play the role of silicon calcium alloy more effectively, the particle size of the alloy should be about 2mm, and it will be directly added to the flow iron groove, iron mixing furnace or hot iron bag.
