Selecting the appropriate FeSiMg Nodulizer for casting requires consideration of the following six factors: spheroidization temperature, treatment ladle size, spheroidization process, treatment weight, silicon content, and sulfur content of the original molten iron.


Spheroidization Temperature:

If the spheroidization temperature is >1480℃, the spheroidization reaction will be more intense, leading to a lower magnesium absorption rate. To stabilize the spheroidization reaction, FeSiMg Nodulizer with relatively high calcium content can be chosen.

If the spheroidization temperature is <1480℃, FeSiMg Nodulizer with relatively lower calcium content can be used.

Treatment Ladle Size:

For a ladle with a height-to-diameter ratio of 1:1, the loss of magnesium vapor will decrease the magnesium absorption rate. It is recommended to use FeSiMg Nodulizer with higher calcium content.

For a ladle with a height-to-diameter ratio of 2:1, the spheroidization reaction will be more stable, leading to improved magnesium absorption rates.

Spheroidization Process:

Without using a covered ladle method, the smoke generated from the spheroidization reaction will enter the atmosphere, potentially irritating. To stabilize the spheroidization reaction, FeSiMg Nodulizer with low magnesium and high calcium content can be used.

If the covered ladle method is employed, there will be less splashing of molten iron, and less smoke generated. In this case, FeSiMg Nodulizer with high magnesium and low calcium content can be used to reduce the dosage and lower the cost of spheroidization.

Treatment Weight:

For treatment weights less than 500kg of molten iron, smaller-sized FeSiMg Nodulizer are recommended, preferably below 12mm in particle size.

For treatment weights between 500-1000kg, larger-sized FeSiMg such as those with particle sizes ranging from 3-25mm can be used.

For treatment weights exceeding 1000kg, FeSiMg Nodulizer with particle sizes ranging from 4-32mm is suitable.

Silicon Content:

If the casting process results in low yield or high scrap rates, and there is a need to increase the amount of scrap and waste steel in the melt, strict silicon content requirements for molten iron are essential. In such cases, using low-silicon FeSiMg Nodulizer can allow for an increase in scrap content by 8% to 15%, thereby reducing the production costs for the foundry.

Sulfur Content of Original Molten Iron:

If the sulfur content of the original molten iron is high and no desulfurization treatment is conducted, high-magnesium and high-rare-earth FeSiMg Nodulizer with higher dosages are required.

If the sulfur content of the original molten iron is low, low-magnesium and low-rare-earth FeSiMg Nodulizer with lower dosages, and consequently lower costs.
