Description of Atomized Ferrosilicon 15%

Atomised Ferro Silicon powder 15% is a specialized powder product formed by melting FeSi 75% with scrap and casting it into a high-pressure water jet. Particle size is typically between 212 microns and 20 microns. The principal properties of FeSi 15% are magnetism, corrosion resistance, and density.

Atomized FeSi 15% is typically used in DMS- Dense Medium Separation applications where the separating density is above 3.0 specific gravity (sg) for static baths and 3.2 sg for cyclones. The particle shape of Atomised FeSi is more spherical than that of Milled FeSi.

Five different grades of atomized ferrosilicon can be produced, which differ only in size distribution, named Coarse, Fine, Extra-fine, Cyclone 60, and Cyclone 40. The main feature of the Atomised grades is the ability to produce high medium densities combined with low viscosities. particularly at densities greater than 3.0 sg.

Atomized Ferrosilicon 15% Production Process

Atomized Ferro Silicon 15% is mixed in water to create a dense medium and finds uses in the mining and scrap processing industries. Dense medium separation is a gravity separation technique that creates a medium with a specific density. This medium allows lights to float and heavies to sink, thus permitting separation due to density. The process typically separates aluminum, magnesium, and mixed heavy metals such as copper alloys, thereby increasing overall scrap metal recycling rates. After sizing, the mixed feed is screened and then sent to a drum containing magnetite media which removes the lower-density waste (rubber, plastic, etc) and light metals such as magnesium alloys. The heavily concentrated scrap is then directed to a second drum containing FeSi media which separates the aluminum from other metals. FeSi powder creates different media densities and can be adjusted, within certain limits.
