Description of Silicon Manganese Nitride

Silicon manganese nitride is primarily composed of SiN and M.N, along with a mixture of non-nitrided silicon iron, non-nitrided silicon manganese, and small amounts of other components. The granular product of silicon manganese nitride is gray-white. Silicon manganese nitride is mainly used as a nitrogen-adding agent for oriented silicon steel, as well as for high-strength steel (such as HRB400) and as a nitrogen-adding agent for casting.

Preparation Methods of Silicon Manganese Nitride:

The main methods for preparing silicon manganese nitride include vacuum sintering, secondary nitriding, microwave synthesis, high-temperature self-diffusion synthesis, and atmospheric one-step synthesis.

Characteristics of Silicon Manganese Nitride:

Silicon manganese nitride alloy can eliminate or weaken the hot brittleness caused by sulfur, thereby improving the heat treatment performance of steel. It can also optimize ferrite crystals, enhance the compressive strength of ferritic steel, and improve the cutting performance of steel.

The mass fraction of manganese in silicon manganese alloy is 40%-50%, as manganese sulfide can produce high-melting-point MNS, eliminating the harmful effects of sulfur. Manganese has good deammoniation ability, combining with FEO in steel to form MNOF, entering the coal ash, thereby improving the quality of steel, reducing the ductility of steel, and enhancing the compressive strength and strength of steel. Therefore, manganese is a useful element in steel.

In carbon steel, the conventional manganese content is 0.5% to 0.8%, while in alloy structural steel with higher manganese content, the manganese content is 0.7% to 1.2%. Manganese plays a role in deoxidation, desulfurization, and alloying in steelmaking. Manganese can eliminate or weaken the hot brittleness caused by sulfur, thereby improving the hot processing performance of steel; refining pearlite particles, enhancing the strength of pearlite steel, and improving the quenching performance of steel. Silicon nitride has high-temperature thermal stability, heat resistance to vibration, resistance to thermal shock, chemical stability, and good electrical insulation and hardness. Silicon manganese nitride alloy is compatible with the special properties of silicon nitride and manganese nitride. After silicon, manganese, and nitrogen combine, their performance becomes more superior.

The nitrogen content of silicon manganese nitride alloy is usually 12-32%. It is a new type of anticorrosive agent for iron smelting alloys and is an alloying agent for manufacturing high-nitrogen steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel plates, uniformly added with nitrogen during the degreasing process. During the entire cold rolling process, nitrogen dissolves in dislocations, forming chemical substances such as nitrogen and carbon. It has the functions of optimization, enhancement, and solid solution strengthening, improving the tensile strength, strength, and compressive strength of steel. This improvement ensures that the plastic deformation and ductility of steel are not reduced, and the performance indicators are guaranteed.

In addition, silicon manganese nitride also has good heat resistance, thermal conductivity, chemical stability, and small thermal expansion, and its powerful microalloying and nitriding effects have been widely used in areas such as threaded steel bars for oriented silicon steel, with enormous market demand.
